I always paint
the same way (midstream between remembering and forgetting)
lattice, matting, weaving, casing, lines followed by marks followed by lines, surrounds, rules, regulations, diagonals and paced out intersections, signs aligned on scaffolding.
I look
only at my page, the world at the edge of my eyes
rhythm, within rhythm, breaks and beeps, drop by drop, time shattered, words in the movement and movement in the body, dashes, tildes and commas, slight changes in figures
yet the landscape without my realising it renders each painting otherwise
colour, colour, colour calendar, hours of each violent destiny, texture of shadow of shadow of repetition, blue taking up blue again, that which is there never designated, fear inordinately present
